The Matter of Hair: Chryosis

BY CHRYOSIS
Chryosis began close to home. One of our co founders is of Greek heritage, and the first person who made him look at hair differently was his mother, also of Greek descent. As her hair began to change, so did the way he understood it. Something that had once felt familiar was becoming unfamiliar, and with it came a question that would stay with him: what do we do when the hair we have known for years begins to become something new?
The name Chryosis draws from the Greek chrysos, meaning gold, and the idea of a process of becoming. To us, that has never meant perfection. Gold is shaped over time, and so are we. Hair moves through those years with us, changing with the body, age, hormones, environment, care, and the lives we happen to live.
Some of us are only beginning to understand our hair. Some are somewhere in the middle, learning, unlearning, watching it change, and trying to meet it where it is. Others have lived through many versions of it already, caring for hair that carries decades of memory.
Chryosis is for all of them. For the first curl someone learns how to care for. For the hair that suddenly behaves differently than it used to. For the silver strands, the thinning ones, the ones that return after loss, and the ones that simply grow older alongside us.
We became less interested in asking hair to return to what it once was, and more interested in understanding what it is becoming.
That curiosity became Chryosis. Because hair has always meant more than hair.
